Painted Threads Festival 2026

Third annual PAINTED THREADS FESTIVAL
Celebrate Tradition, Creativity, and Community at the Painted Threads Festival!
Step into the world of textiles and storytelling at Harlem’s PAINTED THREADS FESTIVAL, a free, family-friendly Maker Day where generations come together through the art of fabric and design.
Engaging in cultural arts isn’t just about creativity, it’s a way to honor heritage, weaving the past into the present with each stitch, pattern, and tapestry. Discover the deep connections between craftsmanship and identity while celebrating the richness of tradition through hands-on experiences.
Join us for a great maker day in Harlem with:
- Community Weaving and Quilting, Surface Design, Bead Making and Fabric Collage
- Explore textile artistry guided by artists Sahara Briscoe, Oluwaseyi Awoyomi, Elan Ferguson and Omi Gray.
- I AM a MAKERS – Bring your own project and work independently. Connect with talented artisans and discover handcrafted creations. Portable spinning wheels and looms welcome.
- Live performances by Women of Calabash
QUOTE:
“Painted Threads is where heritage meets hands-on creativity. In the heart of Harlem, we gather generations to preserve tradition, pass on skills, and celebrate the legacy of textile arts as living, evolving culture.”
This gathering is your chance to slow down, embrace African Diasporic traditions, and create something meaningful together. Whether you’re learning, crafting, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, your story is part of this community.
